Goodbye April

I'm off work today (planning day, although I don't have anything to plan, therefore it's a day off!) Tomorrow is also off for May day so we will head to the cottage this evening after Henrik finishes work.
I will visit the dentist today for the first time since moving to Norway (oops) so I'm hoping I'm not in too much trouble...
The sun made a welcome return to Oslo for the whole weekend but now it's back to pissing rain. Is summer ever going to arrive?
(and yes, that is another enamel kettle found at a fleamarket. I think I'm addicted to them....)

The weekend

This weekend has been all about cleaning, tidying, sorting, washing, throwing stuff out and general spring cleaning. Our flat felt pretty horrid after a long winter of just shoving things away into various cupboards. Now everything has a home, its own box. Feels good.
In between the cleaning a few fleamarkets were visited but seeing as we were on a cleaning bonanza I tried not to buy too much (but could not resist yet another enamel kettle and a log holder which I'm using to hold my trays)
Hope you all had a lovely weekend. It's now sofa lounging time in our home with yoghurt cake and Homeland.

The weekend

By Friday evening I'm usually totally worn out. My brain is frazzled from the norwegian (the language, not the husband!) and the thought of the weekend ahead feels like heaven.
A lie in, a long breakfast, a little road trip with a picnic, and some time relaxing at the cabin. Throw in a couple of fleamarkets and I'm a very happy camper!
P.s Yes, that is another Arabia kettle picked up for 10kr/£1 yesterday.

A shopping frenzy

One of the highlights of our time in England was a 45 minute mad dash around Waitrose. I stocked up on some essentials and many treats (which are now hidden so we don't eat them all at once)
My mum thought it was hilarious how excited I became but if she lived in Norway and was forced to shop in awful supermarkets with a terrible selection she would totally understand my skipping down the aisles like a kid in a sweet shop! I've said it before and I'll say it again, but I HATE norwegian supermarkets more than you can possibly imagine and feel really depressed that my next visit to Waitrose is possibly months away......
(last pic of some lovely British sausages smuggled in my suitcase yesterday. They were delish)

Happy Easter/God Påske everyone!

Around here lately

Seems to be a yellow overload in our home right now. Totally unintentional, but I am feeling very springy so maybe that's why (although as I type its -4c outside)
I could not be happier that we are escaping Norway for the Easter holiday. Tomorrow morning Norway will close for 4 whole days. People are food shopping like it's the end of the world, getting ready to head off to their mountain cabins to hopefully have a last hurrah on the ski slopes, read some crime novels and eat kvikk lunsj (norwegian kitkat) and oranges. A huge majority of Norway does this. YAWN.
p.s That's our neighbour, Embla in the bottom pic. She was my first friend in Norway and she likes to watch me eat whilst foaming at the mouth. I practice my norwegian on her and she is the only one who does not pull me up on my mistakes....

Hello April

I'm off work this week and I'm having that lovely Monday feeling of knowing I'm as free as a bird for 8 whole days. Ahhhhh, heaven.
I love my job but talking and hearing norwegian all day is exhausting (Although if I'm totally honest I do speak a fair bit of English at work which I must stop doing!)
We are off to England later this week for Easter and I have shopped online like a demon for the past week sending all my packages to my mums place (to avoid that pesky norwegian toll) so I look forward to meeting all my new clothes (erm, and shoes, essie nail varnish, books, cd's and the many other things I've ordered!)
