Someone told me that when you move to a new country you spend the first month feeling like you are on holiday, the next 6 months complaining, another 6 months adjusting and then in your second year you start enjoying. I am
well and truly into the complaining part of the programme! Although I do feel that the many bottles of Glögg we bought back from Sweden are helping!
Yesterday we had a long walk on Nesøya and lunch on the beach, it is cold but when the sky is blue and the sun is shining you can deal with the cold (long johns are on, fur lined boots, hat, scarf and gloves and Im learning to walk like a penguin)
At first I thought you said "the first 6 months on holiday", which I thought sounded a bit long!
ReplyDeleteI agree: one month holiday was it!
I'm not always complaining, but I am frustrated. It helps knowing that it would be difficult, knowing I'd be frustrated, and knowing that this is normal!
Emily, I only complain to Henrik (poor him!) I knew it would not be easy, but I underestimated how hard it would be! It does not help knowing I can get a flight home so quickly and cheaply either! but, yes, you are right, it's all totally normal to be feeling like this!
ReplyDeleteI've a project for you. Put together a photographic portfolio and tout it round the agencies in Oslo?! xx
ReplyDeleteWhoops - I'm still in the complaining stage after 8 months. Guess I'm a slow adaptor!!
ReplyDeleteNorglish! I think I'll still be complaining well into the adaption phase!! Us Brits love a good moan!!
ReplyDeleteSo England can look forward to some moaning by me over the next year after I have moved.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely lovely blog by the way, really enjoy especially the fantastic atmospheric photos!
