A moan

Oh, Waitrose, how I miss you. Marks and Spencer, I miss you too. Nothing compares to you here. Food shopping in Norway is a dull, expensive experience. I know I've been spoilt in London but I can't help but be disappointed each and every time we food shop. Henrik and I argue in supermarkets more than we do anywhere else!
The prices..... Oh, the prices are just shocking! See that block of cheese? The Jarlsberg? It is 109kr which is a whopping £12.04 of our great British pounds!!!! For that kind of dosh I could have some seriously nice cheese from here!

  1. Oh Lisa, you brought a tear to my eye. Granted, I have never shopped for food in Britain, but I understand you. But count your lucky stars, young lady, that you have access to a (far) greater number and variety of stores in the Oslo area than in this rural, remote, no flea market, no Grønnland part of the country. At least you can get some decent veg at a decent price in the summer! p.s. LOVE the first photo of the Heia Norge! potato chips!

  2. I often think that the awful food shopping is what's really keeping me from moving back to Norway. I feel your pain! Even in Denmark it's a completely different thing. The food revolution hasn't quite reached Norway yet. Those aisles of powdered soup and the serious lack of good vegetables are so depressing.

  4. I do sympathise...and totally get what you mean.I just wonder... does Henrik ever take it personally that you feel so poorly about certain aspects of Norwegian life ( ie : food and winter) ?

  5. Siri- I do have access to far more stuff than you, yes! (I feel guilty now!)

Anja- Hopefully the food revolution will be arriving very soon!

Caroline- There is not one particular item I miss the most. It's just the HUGE choice available in England that I miss!

Anna- Henrik does not mind at all. He feels the same! After living in London for 10 years means he is used to a better selection of food, warmer weather etc
