My main problem about learning a new language is that I'm usually a total smart arse and love to pull up Henrik on his English (which, by the way is brilliant, no Norwegian accent, excellent vocabulary and grammar that beats mine hands down) So I'm struggling because being in his country and learning his language is a very humbling experience- and it means I'm not right all the time anymore, and I hate that!! Oh, how the tables have turned!
(Thank you to Henrik who spent 2 hours with me on my homework last night whilst I cried and stamped my feet like an infant!)
*****************************UPDATE**********
Turns out my homework (that made me cry due to the sheer amount) is not due until Monday, so what I crammed into two hours last night I actually had 5 days to complete it! Seems I have not yet learned enough norwegian to understand simple instructions ! At least now my weekend is homework free! Yipeeee!

  1. Just wanted to wish you good luck with the new language! I so know how frustrating that can be! I live in Helsinki, where everything around me is written (/spoken) in Finnish but my boyfriend, and his whole family and friends are Swedish-speaking Finns, a language minority in this country (5%)... so i had to learn two languages at the same time. And because of that, i'm not really fluent in any of them, which totally pisses me off :(
I know Norwegian is difficult but I'm sure you'll be able to speak it in no time! Just make sure that Henrik starts speaking it with you at home... it helps a lot! :)

  2. I have a Swedish niece and nephew who speak what I think is perfect English so I have so much empathy with you except you are much braver than me as I haven't even attempted to learn their language. Hang in there...

  3. All of the Scandinavian languages are hard to learn I think. My Canadian boyfriend is currently trying to learn Danish, and he's not finding it easy either.

    Good luck with it!

  4. thank you Lisa! I'll try to update more often... it's just that this darkness is not good for me (makes me too lazy!) nor for picture taking ;)

  5. Did you really cry? Because I can relate if you did. Also, it's amazing how Norwegians can perfectly take on the accent of whichever English-speaking country they've lived in. My husband makes a very convincing Minnesotan.

  7. Siri- Yes, I really cried! It was 12.30am and I wanted to sleep and knew
Henrik would not be there to help in the morning so I was feeling really frustrated and pissed off at this silly language!
Indie mom- Good luck to Scott (I think Danish is even harder to understand than Norwegian!)
Francesca- Ha ha, blasted Norwegian is Henrik!
