Today

It's so cold out today so we are staying put. Henrik has had a raging fever for the last few days and I have gone into hibernation mode, enjoying lots of old films on TV (plus a seinfeld box set) and catching up on all the magazines I bought in England (I refuse to buy magazines in Norway as even Norwegian magazines cost around £6) I love this time of year between Christmas and New year, something so cozy about it!

Sanna Annukka

My mum got me these biscuit tins by Sanna Annukka from Marks and Spencer. Such lovely design (and just about the only Sanna Annukka thing I can afford!)

Tuesday, 28 December 2010

We are back home and enjoying some food that has nothing to do with Christmas!
We had a great time in England and are now loving these quiet days between Christmas and New Year. Hope you all had a good one!

Merry Christmas

We are off to jolly old England today and I want to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas!!

p.s You can add snow (or santa hats!) to your photographs by taking yourself over to Picnik.
Go on, its fun!

Ice, ice baby

Ok, so Im obsessed with making these lanterns now! I make them in the evening, go to bed and in the morning they are ready! (yes, I need a job!)

Bærums Verk

Last night we went to Bærums Verk to do some Christmas shopping and soak up the festive atmosphere!
Henrik has now finished work for 2 weeks and I am praying that the bad weather in England does not ruin our trip. One thing I love about Norway is it's ability to cope in bad weather. Your car legally has to have winter tyres so you can carry on driving, they plough and grit quickly because life has to continue normally!

Friday, 17 December 2010

On Monday we will head over to England and I was looking forward to some warmer temperatures but it's now looking like a white Christmas over there too! I was hoping to see some grass (not seen any for over a month now!)
Snow and cold weather is really hard work! The scraping of the car, shovelling of snow, the constant layering up and stripping off (our flat is like an oven so those layers need to be off as soon as we walk through the door!) Even walking in it is tiring! (and you cant even make a snowman because its too soft and fluffy to pack together!)

Beans and snow

It seemed to be getting a little warmer this morning, only -1c but then the sky went white and the snow started to fall so I came back home, had a British lunch and have now plonked myself on the sofa to watch Glee (love it!)

p.s I will update my shop in January (been hard to decide what to sell and what to keep!)

Ice

I thought I may as well make use of the cold weather and make some ice lanterns. Seems crazy that I can burn a whole church candle in one and it still wont melt! That's how cold it is!
You can make your own by looking here

Cozy

As long as I'm cozy I can cope with the short, dark days!

Yesterday

We shopped in Sweden (no pics I'm afraid, too busy shopping!) and then stopped at Fredrikstad on the way home which is a little town I'd love to live in.
Today is Santa Lucia and I was hoping we could go to Church and experience this day for the first time but we didn't really get it together!

Oksenøya (2)

Hard to believe that Oksenøya used to be Oslo's main airport. Just by the beach, on the Oslo fjørd, there is actually still a small preserved patch of the runway (which Henrik can never resist running on and pretending he is a plane! Boys,eh?!) The landing strip is far too close to water for my liking!

Oksenøya

We went for a big walk to Oksenøya today which was lovely as the temp has gone up to -5c which
makes a massive difference from -16c. Last night the temp went up and then came down again, melting the ice and leaving our car covered in a thick layer of ice which took us over 40 minutes to scrape/chip off! I'm missing the weekend Flea Markets as they seem to have stopped for the winter :(
