Helsinki

We had a wonderful time exploring Helsinki (and guess what? We didn't have to chase the sun, it was just there, waiting for us!)
We crammed so much in to 4 days, ate too much good food, walked til our feet were blistered, ate wonderful ice cream (who knew licorice & lemon was such a good ice cream combo?)
Helsinki is the city I wish Oslo was. Super friendly, clean, a pleasure to wander around, great places to eat that don't break the bank, good manners, cool shops and bike friendly. Now, if I could just find a way to sneakily bring Helsinki to Oslo and swap them over......

  1. sounds great! I´m going to Helsinki in November for a few days and have been told quite the opposite about the city. Guess it depends from which angle you look at it...

    1. Yes, I agree, it totally depends on which angle you look at it! When we lived in london I thought nowhere lived up to London but now I think all cities that are not Oslo are fab!

  4. Hej Lisa,
I have been following your blog for a while now and I love it! My love with Scandinavia started in August 2010 when I made a random choice to do my intership in Oslo over 6 months. I have been living in Ireland for almost 12 years now so i understand 'frustrations' of living in a foreign country, getting to know culture, customs, food etc(I'm originally from Poland).Settling in Ireland wasn't intentional, I came here for the summer then met my partner (who is actually from london)and we have never left :)! This month I am moving to Sweden to Gothenburg to do my Masters|(sadly my partner and my beloved dog have to stay in Irl but hopefuly we will be reunited around January 2013). I'm so glad to be able to go back to live in Scandinavia again!while living in Oslo,i had mixed feelings about this place, it was 'love-hate' relatiosnhip :) only on my return to Ireland i realised how much I really enjoyed it!After living in an English speaking country I found it difficult to accept lackof manners in Oslo (especially on tbane when people kept pushing me, banging with their bags and no aplogies whatsoever haha!).
I'm a bit nervous abot mymove to goteborg, I hope everything will work out for me wellover there!
looking forward to continuing reading your blog :)
    all the best,
    Magda xx

  5. Helsinki is super, I concur. I'm so glad you liked it there- even though I'm not a Helsinkian, I have a warm place in my heart for it and get proud whenever anyone sings it's praises. Bless it.
Hopefully soon, we'll be honorary Helsinkians, too, and you'll have to pop over whenever you need a Baltic break!
