Scones & Snow

My Norwegian class starts at lunch time and it's too early to have lunch before I leave so I come home at 4pm famished! Yesterday I whipped up a quick batch of scones (been trying not to bake as I really don't need to be eating cakes!) So I had just one and saved the rest for old Hungry Horace (Henrik!)
Last night the snow started to melt as temps went up to 2c and the noise as it started to fall off the roof was freaking me out,as I had no idea what it was at first! Now temp has gone down again and the snow is falling!
Oh, and if you like baking then you should go and visit Siri over at the transplanted baker (Siri is also a Norway transplant too, but has been here much longer than me!)

  1. Hey Lisa - you must certantly have to get a dog!!! It is the best and regarding alone time : You have to pick a good time to get the dog. before your sommer holiday starts or maybe when you are done with your norwegian class because in the beginning you cant really leave them and they pee all the time - all the time - but now Tofu is 8 months soon so I leave her 5-6 hours when I go to school( ca 4 days a week)... when she was 4 months I started school after summer and I whent home in my lunchbreaks to walk her - because of her little blater :-) Now I think she could easily manage 6-7 hours.. I just make sure she has somthing nice to chew on - or i put peanut butter in this amazing toy were she loves to lick it out(it takes her hours)
I dont know about dashhounds - its a hunting dog - so maybe you have to do even more to stimulate it, when you then come home.. But if you do training classes like we did they tell you all about that..
But tofu easily copes 6 hours - she just chews and sleeps...

So get a dog - its the best!!!

Sorry for the long response - you'll see when you get a dog you can just talk and talk and talk about them all the time :-)

  2. Hmmm, scones, yum! Sounds like you might have to do brunch. I love your tray (Ikea?) and the teacup and saucer are amazing - are they vintage? Hope your lessons are going well.

  3. Juliab- Brunch sounds like a good idea, Why didn't I think of that! The tray is from Åhlens (in Stockholm, many years ago) and the cup and saucer is by Vicky Hageman ceramics and was bought at a shop called Frank in Whitstable,Kent (and they are still available on the Frank website)
Lessons are coming along nicely, thanks!

  5. I'm rather envious of that cup and saucer. My newfound Saturday morning St John custard doughnut habit is going to be trouble... scones are a much better option!

  6. Scones look delish! Now I want scones. Need to get my husband onto that! I too adore your tray...and your cup...and just about every piece of crockery your own that has ever appeared on this blog. Fact.

  7. Kerry- Thank you! I do have a "thing" for crockery! I think a drink tastes much better if its in a lovely cup/mug! and yes, do get your husband to whip up some scones for you!

Karen- A custard doughnut sounds MUCH better than a scone! Did you ever try Beard Papa's creme puffs? I think they are right up your street!

  8. Yes... did you know that (apparently) there are more calories in a Beard Papa than in a Mars bar!!! Scary.
